Shepard Moon Makes a Big Splash at Haggen!
Like many of you, 2020 has gone nothing like we thought when we set our goals last January. Well, that is, until now! Back in June 2019, we had some positive meetings with Haggen and felt good about expanding into this Northwest favorite. After all, one quick walk down their bath product aisle and you can see just how much they love baths. And Shepard Moon? Heck, that's what we do! It was a match made heavenly for your bathroom. But alas, it wasn't to happen in 2019. So, back went Haggen onto our expansion list for 2020, that is, until COVID hit and we dropped, ducked, and rolled our way through the summer, just hoping to survive.
Imagine our excitement when our sales rep told us Haggen was considering bringing us into all 15 of their stores this fall! We are just thrilled to be serving up more peace at a time when we all could use a whole heck of a lot more of it! Thanks, Sandy and Trent — our amazing sales reps from Mountain Sales Northwest — you guys really hit it out of the park with this one! And thanks to Bennett, Eric, and Anne Marie who pumped out the extra 2,600 lbs. of baths last week for their opening order, along with keeping our other wonderful folks stocked up. So, for those of you who live north and south of the Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area, you can find Shepard Moon baths — including our new Oatmeal Baths — at FIFTEEN MORE LOCATIONS!!!!
More good news for 2020 – Shepard Moon turns 21!
Some anniversaries mean more than others. Turning 20 last year was certainly a big milestone for us, but turning 21 last month feels even bigger after the fear and upheaval COVID brought. On behalf of Shepard Moon, we'd like to thank all the stores who were able to support us through the frightening beginning of the pandemic. In light of this generosity and the incredible courage we've been blessed to witness from the staff at the stores who carry our products, we were able to express our gratitude on Labor Day by supplying each one with baths and super-hero duckies. These amazing people have suited up and shown up to keep the rest of us fed and supplied. If you can remember to say something in kindness to them, we know it goes a long way!
Shepard Moon receives an outpouring of help to keep our doors open through COVID
A special shout out to PCC Community Markets for picking up the phone and reaching out to us at the beginning of the pandemic. They asked if we needed anything and reassured us that they would see us through and not let us fail. When we lost our staff, PCC adjusted and supported our limited abilities above and beyond a normal vendor/store relationship. And all the emotional support that their staff abundantly heaped upon us kept us going one frightening day at a time. To Skagit Valley Food Co-op — we're so grateful for your generosity in continuing your Mother's Day promotion without taking a discount to pitch toward keeping us afloat
Finally, as the owner of Shepard Moon, I'd like to thank the many friends who contributed to a Shepard Moon GoFundMe. Firstly, to Donna Wood who stepped in to help when she found out we lost our staff and were struggling to receive government aid. Thank you for convincing me to allow you to begin a GoFundMe campaign and ask for help. What a transformative experience that ended up being. Not only were we blessed with over $5,000 in contributions, but the out-pouring and generosity from so many unexpected places also made me realize just how much Shepard Moon means to people. I am truly humbled and touched by this kindness.
We did eventually secure a PPP Loan and between that and those generous donations we've been blessed to hire and train an incredible new team, pay to re-design our production space to increase social distancing, and fund the many other safety measures needed to keep operating. A special thanks to Martin Kuenn, who brilliantly tore apart and put together our facility once a month throughout the summer as we figured out how to make it work under a 'new model' and pay for each new section. And of course, to Bennett, one of our new hires who assisted Martin with his strong, limber, youthful might!
In short, we are just so happy to be able, not just to continue our mission of serving peace to those in our community, but to expand that mission to new stores as we enter this year's bath season! Our new team is already hard at work putting together our signature holiday baths and keeping production flowing one day at a time. To all of you out there, stay safe, take care of yourselves, and stay tuned for what Shepard Moon does next.
We love you all!
